Do two shitty drawings equal one good one? I sure hope so! The condition of cynocephaly, having the head of a dog — or of a jackal— is a widely attested mythical phenomenon existing in many different forms and contexts. Cynocephaly was familiar to the Ancient Greeks from representations of the Egyptian gods Hapi (the son of Horus) and Anubis (the Egyptian god of the dead). In Welsh mythology and folklore, Cŵn Annwn (“hounds of Annwn”) were the spectral hounds of Annwn, the otherworld of Welsh myth. They were associated with a form of the Wild Hunt, presided over by Gwynn ap Nudd. Christians came to dub these mythical creatures as “The Hounds of Hell” or “Dogs of Hell” and theorized they were therefore owned by Satan. I fell behind last week due to some out of town wedding action and some ATL works stuffs. I did these two as warm ups, but decided to throw some color on them anyways. The dog doesn’t look too bad for being done straight in ink, but the the Cynocephaly just looks terrible. Just look at that left leg….Gugh! Can’t win ‘em all I guess.
